Overview:
Alright, I've had this happen to me numerous times, and I'm sure you have experienced it also in the past. You'll at some
point refer to Tails as a 'he' to a someone, and this will start of a debate as they believe Tails is actually female. From
the way Tails has been referred to in the past, he obviously is male. However, did Sega originally plan for Tails to be female
instead?
Looks:
Firstly on the agenda, looks. So describe Tails, he's young, cute, etc. right? Now, to some people this may originally
make them think he's a female, and therefore that was originally intended. However, hence his young age, this cancels out
that idea. Despite this, there are a few other things that may make people think Tails was intended to be a girl. For example,
has anyone ever played Tails' Sky Patrol? In the intro screen with Tails, 'he' looks as if he's wearing lipstick... now that
can't be right, can it? It was possibly a fault in my game, or perhaps a glitch in the game, but that's what I saw. If neither
of those are true, then yes it is possible that Tails was originally intended to be female.
Another factor in the looks section of Tails, is the first ever Sonic the Hedgehog hentai comic. This comic involved both
Sonic and Tails in adultery scenes, though Tails was portrayed as female therein. This may of possibly been a mere experiment
by the creator of this comic, however it also may serve as proof to Tails originally being planned as female.
Personality:
Tails' personality. As before we'll begin with a small description. He's a close follower of Sonic, and always has been,
and sometimes friends may become more than just that. It's a known fact that Tails does tend to rely on Sonic a lot, as does
he think of him from time to time. For example, in Sonic Adventure 1 after the plane fell from the sky, Tails almost immediately
turned his mind to Sonic. This could of course merely been of worry because they were close friends, but this personality
has been carried out most likely from the original plans, and as earlier stated: Some close friends become even more than
friends if they're around each other enough, and that is ever more likely if they're around each other as often as Sonic and
Tails are.
In the various assortment of cartoons and such, Sonic is the person Tails instinctively turns to for help over everyone
else for help. Also in the SatAM episode 'No Brainer', Sonic is the only person that Tails leaves the look-out tower for.
The two of them seem to enjoy each other's company to a great extent, perhaps even more than is realised. There are many takes
on how they act towards each other by various fan-fiction writers, due to the large amount of Tails x Sonic yaoi fan-fiction
that can be found around the Internet.
However, this brings into mind the character Amy Rose, long term admirer of Sonic The Hedgehog. This may instantly deter
people from the idea of Tails being planned as a female, but perhaps that was the main idea of Sonic's much loved fan-girl.
It is of course possible that the original intention using Amy Rose was to throw attention from Tails seeming attraction to
Sonic, and therefore cover their original plans up.
Final overview:
After noting all of the above information, especially the idea about Tails' originally planned gender being female seems
to be very possible. Although of course this cannot be told for sure, although there is much information to support this idea.
